THREE KOI ALBUM (Hand or Fusible Applique)

Come learn all about hand or fusible applique while working on this 14" quilt featuring three koi fish and lily pads. If you are interested in designing album blocks bring pencil, eraser and graph paper, (if you have some otherwise Nancy may have some) and photos of animals (preferably where the size of the animal in the photo is about 4"-6" in size. 

Supplies

For Hand Applique:

Fabric scissors with a pointed tip ( 5"embroidery scissors work well ) 

Paper scissors

Freezer paper (used for templates- there will be some to share)

Straight pins

Pencil sharpener

Ruler

Needles: #10 or 11 Sharps (English brands like Richard Hemming or John James)

Thread to match fabric: 50 or 60 weight cotton, polyester or silk

Marking pencils to mark light and dark fabrics: white or silver (work best)

For Fusible Applique:

Steam a Seam 2, parchment paper, a sharpie pen, sharp scissors and fabric (see next) 

If you are interested in designing album blocks, bring a lead pencil eraser, graph paper and photos of animals (preferably where the size of the animal in the photo is about 4"-6")

Fabrics: PREWASH ALL FABRICS, prints and solids.

Background: 1/2 yard or fat quarter of light blue or aqua.

Lily pads: 1/4 yard green.

Koi: Koi come in a variety of colors and patterns - mostly oranges, whites and blacks. You can use the outline of the pattern and/or make your own color combinations if you wish. Nancy will have a photo of actual Koi. If you wish to make the koi in the sample you will need small amounts of orange, black, white and light gray. (scraps or 1/4 yard pieces) A few different oranges would be nice. If you can find white, light gray or orange with lines, that will work well for the fins on the side and the tail fin. Nancy can also show you how to draw some lines or embroider them.
