Students will learn basic beginner skills while making a small quilt. Students will learn how to cut fabric pieces using a rotary cutter, ruler and mat; how to sew an accurate ¼” seam; how to create various blocks using straight seams; how to add sashing, cornerstones, and borders. There will be a discussion on quilting techniques and a demonstration of binding.

The teacher will demonstrate cutting & sewing techniques. Then students will work on their blocks in class. Additional sewing will need to be completed outside of class.

 

SUPPLY LIST

BOOK: Start Quilting with Alex Anderson - HIGHLY recommended

FABRIC: 100% cotton. Fat Quarter or quarter yard of five to nine fabrics. Solids, tone on tone, and small prints work well. Bring any of your favorites and we will work them in. All staff are experienced quilters who can assist you with your fabric choices.

NOTIONS: (bring what you have, don't buy anything new yet)

100% cotton neutral colored thread to blend with your fabrics size 50/3

Scissors for fabric, thread snips

Rotary cutter, 9.5" square ruler(s) and mat

Pins – thin glass head 1 3/8" with a super fine .50mm shaft recommended (others ok)

Seam ripper

Sewing Machine in good working order with a new needle (size 80/12)
