Supply List(s)
For Hand Applique-Fabric Scissors (any sharp scissor with a pointed tip), paper scissors, Freezer Paper for templates (there is some available if you don't have any), straight pins, hand needles (#10 or #11 Sharps English Brands preferred), threads to match fabric (50 or 60 wt. cotton, silk, polyester are fine), marking pencils (bring your favorites that will mark light and dark fabric; silver pencils work for both), Pencil sharpener
For Fusible Applique-Steam-A-Seam 2, parchment paper, sharpie pen, sharp scissors and fabric.
Fabric
Prewash all fabrics; prints or solids (I like prints because they add texture to animal portraits)
The pattern is 8" X 11" so you will need small amounts of fabric (scraps or less than quarter yard) for each color. If you choose to do the pattern as shown for the cat, you will need black, white, light grey, pink and a little yellow or green for the eye. For the dog, you will need light, medium and dark tan, dark brown, black and grey. For the bird you will need shades of purple. If you want the pattern to look like your own pet bring fabrics in your pet's colors. (be sure to bring a couple of shades of that color for contrast). Do not worry if you do not have every color as there should be plenty to share.
In the afternoon, there will be a demonstration of how to make a pattern from a photo of a dog or cat. If you would like to try this, bring a photo of your pet and a black and white photocopy enlargement (about 8" X 10" or so as this will help you to see lights and darks.) Nancy will have tracing paper to use. If you have a light box and it will be easy to bring, that will help too.
