Learn basic binding for straight-edged quilts and one specialty binding. The kit provided includes simple tools and materials to make samples in class to take with you to make binding your next quilts easier and produce more beautiful results. These tips and techniques will be useful whether you machine stitch binding to the front of your quilt and hand sew it to the back or machine stitch both front and back. Janet binds customer quilts at New Pieces and will share things she has learned.

Optional: Bring a quilted but unbound quilt (with material for binding and matching thread, or buy them at New Pieces) and stay unti the shop closes to bind a quilt of your own with intermittent assistance from Janet as needed.

SUPPLY LIST:

Sewing machine in good working order with a new size 80/12 needle

Thread, any color, including wound bobbin

Needle for hand sewing

Scissors

Seam Ripper

A few straight pins

Pencil

Small ruler (does not need to be longer than 6”)
