Mondo Bag in action

pattern cover for Mondo/Midi Bag

Looking for a great big bag?  Up your bag-making skills, while trying a simple technique for piecing that makes mixing many fabrics go super smoothly.  The Mondo Bag fits the bill!

Teacher Alla Blanca will de-mystify basic bag-making techniques, and provide many hints and hacks for using the QuiltSmart materials and pattern to construct this very large tote.  (The Mondo Bag can hold two twin-size quilts!)  See the sample in the store for exactly how big and useful this bag is—plus we love the fabric mix.

Materials:
Mondo Bag pattern and Pre-printed interfacing panels
(Midi Bag pattern is another option, see pattern envelope to adjust fabric/interfacing needed)
Fabric:
14+ 2 ½” strips (by width of fabric) OR 48 charm squares (5” square) and (2) 2 ½” strips for handles
If using yardage, need at least (4) ¼ yard cuts, but more colors = more fun mixing!
1 ¼ yard lining
1 ¼ yard fusible fleece

Supplies:
Sewing machine in good working order
Rotary cutter, mat and ruler (6” x 24” is a good size)
Thread: good quality polyester thread is preferred for bag sewing; also any desired thread for topstitching
Needles: both piecing needles (Microtex 80/12 or 70/11) and heavier needles (Jeans or Topstitch 90/14) will be useful
Basic sewing supplies: scissors, seam ripper, pins, thread and bobbin for your sewing machine

Optional: pressing sheet, walking foot for sewing machine, Wonder Clips (or equivalent)

Note: bag is constructed from 2 ½” squares (or optional 5” squares, for Mondo size only).  You may begin cutting squares before the class to save time.
