BEGINNING QUILT MAKING with Jane Strem

August 13, August 27, September 3, September 24     12:30-3:00     $95

We will learn basic beginner skills while putting together a small quilt. Students will learn how to cut using a rotary cutter, ruler and mat, how to sew an accurate ¼” seam, half square triangles, sashing, cornerstones and borders.

The teacher will demonstrate cutting & sewing techniques. Then students will work on these in class. Some sewing will need to be completed outside of class.

Book: Tula Pink's 100 Modern Quilt Blocks - Highly recommended

Fabric

100% cotton. Fat Quarter or smaller pieces of several fabrics. 2 1/2" strips are convenient. Solids, tone on tone, and small prints work well. Bring any of your favorites and we will work them in. You might want to wait till the first class to buy your fabric if you are not sure. Class sample quilt features small animal prints.

Notions

100% cotton neutral colored thread to end with your fabrics

scissors for fabric

Rotary cutter, ruler and mat

pins – thin glass head 1 3/8" with a super fine .50mm shaft recommended

seam ripper

Sewing Machine

Bring your own machine in good working order with a new needle (size 75 or 80)
